What is Real Luxury?

I noticed when visiting an indigenous community, to honor their guests, they make sure to serve them with the most “luxurious” meal in their homes— store purchased canned goods.  While they “settle” with food gathered from the wilds,  grown from their own gardens,  or raised in their own farm.

This got me thinking about perceptions of luxury. Not unlike them, many also tend to think of highly processed products as more luxurious. Colors that never-ever fade… fortified materials… machine finished…

But what about the luxury of the ephemeral? pure nature? fully handmade? At this time when everything can be machine made and of the fast degradation of the environment — the evanescent — the scarce — the things made by human hands — they are more precious — they are real luxury.
